This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The 64 eyes and 64 ears that are waiting to be filled with great stories, tales, adventures, and knowledge are a classroom of curious, question-asking, adventure-seeking nine, ten, and soon to be eleven year olds that never tire of asking much more insightful questions than I ever did (or cared to) when I was their age.

I teach a fourth/fifth split grade class at a wonderful school in an amazing community in Northern California.

We are a Title I school, and more than 60 percent of our students are English language learners, with over 70 percent of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

This year, my class has received brand new Chromebooks. This has been especially helpful with my split grade class. For 45 minutes every day, one grade is working on certain while I teach the other grade math. But too often, in the first half of the year, I have heard one of these statements:

"Mr. Fahey, my earphones aren't working."

"Mr. Fahey, my headphones are broken."

"Mr. Fahey, there are no more headphones in the bin."

I'm hoping that by giving each student their own pair of earphones, I won't hear these problems anymore and we won't waste any more instructional time figuring out earphone dilemmas!

This project would help not only this class, but my next two classes as well. Thank you for your consideration.
