My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and low-income communities, yet they are united in their pursuit of academic excellence. All of my students are eligible to receive both free breakfast and free lunch at school, and the majority of them struggle with basic necessities on a regular school day.
Our school year was cut short and has placed a strain on them receiving basic learning essentials.
My students all come from low-income families and or immigrant families. This is predominantly my school's demographic.
Our school is nestled in the South Ward of Newark. This area is limited to classroom supplies and health care items.
Our students are eager and very energetic, however; at this time distractions are known to happen. I want to make sure that providing them with these things limits these issues.
Their resources are limited from them not being at school. This will help to keep them engaged and on task. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, my students are currently learning at home.
To them, "home" usually consists of a small, overcrowded, under-furnished apartment with no electricity, cable service, or Internet access. Even the most basic resources are lacking for these children including simple educational supplies like
My Project
Hi! I'm a Second Grade Teacher. Normally, my students receive the school supplies they need in their classrooms, as many of their parents cannot afford to purchase these supplies for them. When they are at school, though, most of my students complete their assignments online. They do not need a large supply of spiral-bound notebooks or loose-leaf paper. However, now that they are learning at home without WiFi access, my students need these items much more than they normally would. A new supply of composition notebooks and loose-leaf paper will help my students to continue learning at home without the aid of Internet access.
More than half of students from low‑income households
