Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the smell of brand new crayons and freshly sharpened pencils? These memories make us think of our first days of school. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for my little students as they walk into their new classroom ready to learn! They come from a small, rural community and for many of them it is their first time to enter a school building.
Many of the families of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Due to all of the damage our school received my students had to share a classroom with another class which gave them very little room to work in. Despite these conditions my students still thrived and learned to read and write and are now ready to enter first grade!
My Project
My students love it when it's time to go to our work stations and learn. In our classroom, work stations are used daily. The Wikki Stix and alphabet cards will be used in our ABC station as well as the alphabet puzzles and the Alphabet Magnetic Letter and Picture set. All of these alphabet activities will help my students learn the letter names as well as how to form and write them.
The CD player, the books with CD's, such as The Three Little Pigs book with CD, and the tiger headphones will all be used in our Listening station.
Also the Listening Lotto games will be used in our Listening station as well. Learning to listen is one of the most important skills that young children must acquire. It is the first step in learning to read. All of these materials will help prepare my students to begin reading.
