My students are all on the autism spectrum and require adaptive physical education to meet their individual unique needs. My students range from kindergarten to 8th grade and most require maximum support to take part in physical education. The students come from low income families and attend a high needs school with few resources and not enough funds to meet the students' needs. The students have a smile on their face and are excited to learn when they enter my classroom. The students require adaptive materials to meet their needs in physical education. My class is often the only chance these students have to participate in movement and sports.
My Project
This exercise bike will be used as a station in my adaptive physical education class. Most of my students have never had the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike. Which makes being able to have a stationary bike so motivating to my students because almost anyone can hop on an exercise bike and take it for a spin. To get started, just start pedaling and reap the benefits! Riding a stationary bike helps to strengthen major muscle groups that support the back, leg and thigh muscles, and the hamstrings behind the thigh. Regular physical exercise helps you manage your weight, boosts your immune system and reduces your risk of developing chronic disease.
