Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Needs Teacher who teaches Kinder through fifth grade. I have been teaching for 33 years. I teach in a low income community where resources are difficult to obtain. My students need all the help they can get to better their academics and be a successful student.
My students have a range of difficult handicaps that involve creative teaching. They do not learn at the same pace as the General Ed students do. Any and all curriculum must be individualized to meet each student's learning plan.
I have requested Science Bags. These bags would develop skills in the areas of plants, animals, and our earth. This type of curriculum is hands on. The students would work in teams. They would discover the many skills and concepts in the area of Science. The Science Bags are high interest and academically appropriate for their learning.
My students are very special people. They have daily obstacles that do not allow them to learn and understand like their peers. I must find curriculum that will teach them and help them understand the world around them. They want to learn so much each and everyday. But keeping them on track and focused is a challenge. The curriculum must be of high interest and fun. My students will learn so much from the Science Bags. I can just see them all working together in their science teams. The interaction among the students will help their communication skills in all aspects of their academic and social life. I believe the science bags will be very successful in my classroom.
