My Students
I have the honor and privilege of working with a wonderful group of students who are between the ages of 18 and 21. My students are hilarious, hardworking, and sweet. My students, who happen to have profound cognitive and physical disabilities, attend a separate school due to the severity of their needs. My students are within two to three years of graduating and are beginning the process of transitioning to the workforce!
Our students focus on learning from a functional curriculum.
Most of our students come from low-income families. Despite the challenges our students face, they are very energetic, enthusiastic, and kind-spirited kids.
My Project
My students need a hand-held vacuum, cleaning supply organizer, chocolate treats and protein bars. My students do various cleaning jobs around the school and community to train for real-world work experiences. Due to the nature of my students' disabilities, a corded, regular vacuum is not always practical. Students in wheelchairs often run over the cord and get tangled. A hand-held vacuum that is battery operated will eliminate the cord and will also allow my easier access to hard to reach places. The protein bars and chocolate will serve as rewards for jobs well done. I have some students who eat very healthy and would prefer a health bar over a chocolate bar!
