I have the great pleasure of teaching a wonderful group of students between the ages of 12-15. Although my students are technically in grades 6-9, they function at a much lower level. All of my students have multiple handicaps. My students' handicaps range from being nonverbal to relying on a wheelchair for mobility. Our entire school serves students with the most profound mental and physical disabilities. Our school is very important to our community. Unfortunately, due to recent economic hardships financial cuts have been made to not only our school but our entire community. I would not trade my job for anything; however, being a special educator requires a ton of planning time and money to make the necessary accommodations for these students.
