My Project
One of my favorite parts of teaching English to high school students is connecting with them through discussions about books, whether they come to me looking for a specific book or come to me recommending that I read a specific book. The current request is adding a little history, from "The Tudor Tutor" covering popular monarchs to books around the American Revolution, "America's First Lady" and "Susanna's midnight Ride".
History doesn’t have to be dry, boring, and difficult to read--especially when we could add historical fiction books like these to our shelves!
With the rise of "BookTok" on social media, which includes users sharing their latest reads, I have noticed an increase in my students' interest in reading again! Some students come in and only like reading a particular genre or length. With this project, I hope to start building a bookshelf they have helped create. Books can take you on all the adventures without moving from the comfort of your seat! I look forward to watching them grow their love of reading, and our bookshelf evolve to their needs!
