This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a literacy coach at an urban school in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I am responsible for working in the classrooms of the PK-2nd grade. This school year, our district focus is on vocabulary and writing. Writing is hard for the children in this area, especially those from other countries. Ours is a school that has many English language learners. It is very difficult to begin any type of writing if you don't have the vocabulary to assist you when you write. Most of our children are faced with this problem when it comes to any kind of writing that they are required to do. I have decided to focus on the first graders to help them build their vocabulary so that they can improve their writing. You can help us by providing vocabulary journals that will "start them off" with words they may need when beginning to write.
