Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in Oklahoma City where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
"It takes a village to raise a child!" I am a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district where my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". Despite the challenges, my students work hard and are eager and excited to learn.
My Project
My students need sight word flashcards and we'll use the snacks as tasty manipulatives to help learn their multiplication facts.
Most of my students are working below grade level and are having trouble learning the basic sight words.
We are located in a low socioeconomic status neighborhood and many of our students don't have adequate resources to get extra items they need to be successful inside the classroom. They will use these cards at school and at home. The water will also ensure that my students stay hydrated, as they learn the high frequency words.
