My Students

I have an awesome opportunity to work with 6th and 7th grade students throughout the school year. These students have been chosen to participate in a small group intervention to support them in their reading skills.

Many of the students I work with are very capable but have yet to find that good book to hook them into reading.

I enjoy working with these students because I feel like I have the opportunity to share with them my excitement of learning and show each one of them their potential. My challenge is providing them resources that will meet their needs and keep them motivated and engaged in learning.

My Project

Having whiteboards, dry erase markers and word study resource books will give me the consistent opportunity to focus on word work activities that will help support my struggling readers as they work on increasing their word identification skills. These materials will help my students learn to identify words more accurately in reading. A key component of reading and writing is word identification which is an area of skill deficit for many adolescent students.

There is now overwhelming evidence that most students who struggle with reading are not making progress in the area of word identification.

These materials will help my students become able to identify words more accurately in reading.
