Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These word mapping white boards have elkonin boxes! Elkonin boxes, also known as sound boxes, are a visual tool used to help students segment words into individual sounds (phonemes) and map those sounds to letters (graphemes). In kindergarten, students are learning sight words and their unusual spellings.

Word mapping activities will support their phonemic awareness and phonics skills and these white boards are perfect!

I will use these white boards to model and introduce new words during whole group lessons. I will then use them during small group instruction while students practice mapping new words on their own.

This will be an engaging and purposeful resource to help students learn new sight words in kindergarten!
