Word Games Galore (Part 2)

My Students

I teach at a tuition-free, public charter school providing students in grades 6-8 a hands-on, project-based, STEAM-focused curriculum. The school is located next to Wings Over the Rockies Exploration Of Flight at Centennial Airport in Colorado and opened two years ago. Students of various backgrounds come from the Denver metro area, specifically for our unique curriculum, location, and opportunities.

For us, teaching children to “think for themselves” is not just about solving problems but also about an organic vision of the world they live in (and one they will inherit).

Our curriculum focuses on core academic competencies and critical focus areas that will prepare learners for promising careers in aerospace and technology.

In addition to academic excellence, we are committed to supporting learners’ emotional intelligence, life skills, and community engagement. Our teachers (facilitators) are devoted to providing learners with the best academic and emotional support through small class sizes and individualized attention.

My Project

Students choose an elective course of interest to them. As the language arts teacher, I love finding fun ways to help students improve their reading and writing skills. I created the Word Games elective to help with these skills, but we need some games to play! This project will provide games for students in the third quarter class, as well as elective classes for years to come!

Through these word games, students will increase their vocabularies, improve their spelling, and have a great time while learning!

We are all looking forward to playing these games this quarter and laughing together while we work with words. We can stay safe and healthy by having groups spread apart and don't have to reuse the same game in one class period, giving us time to disinfect them. This supports their social emotional well being, as they develop confidence and friendships.
