Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our fifth-grade students are today's scholars and tomorrow's leaders who are curious, enthusiastic, creative, and eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge! In addition to academics, our students practice making positive human connections with daily choices that support R.I.S.E.—Respect, Integrity, Safety, and Excellence, and they are recognized monthly for demonstrating these character traits.
We began using a curriculum this year called 95%, a phonics-based program that teaches students how to break down words and build comprehension.
To make this curriculum more exciting, I told students they were going to be word detectives and presented them with mini magnifying glasses so they could look for clues and recognize patterns. Students were very engaged with this program and loved helping to solve the cases daily.
I am requesting a set of magnifying glasses for my new class, as well as reading comprehension games, as these are skills most students need to practice.
