Word Builders and Creators!

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful, and always ready to learn something new! They love hands-on projects in science and math. They engage in discussions with one another with questions and answers to give one another. They come to school and work their hardest with great joy.

Many students in my classroom struggle with reading.

We are 100% free and reduced lunch with a very high ELL population. Even with many of my students learning a new language they never give up.

Our school is in South Salt Lake, Utah. This area is high poverty where parents want the best for their child but are struggling themselves.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning and they all learn in many different ways. I am so lucky and thankful to have a place in this school.

My Project

During these last few years students have missed key concepts most noticeable in literacy. Currently my students are working their hardest to learn missed concepts and become great readers. These supplies will enhance their learning by making it interactive and hands on. They will have a chance to create words and focus on letter patterns and sound families. Along with writing and using the words learned. My students really enjoy working with hands on materials. They almost always choose hands on learning when given the choice.

With these new kits and supplies, my students will be able to create words and write learned sorts as they work towards grade level.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and in order for my students to read more they need to enjoy it. As they create words, and use these kits their interest in reading will increase.

I have seen how these kits can benefit student learning and would like to give my students this benefit as well. After seeing the struggles that my students have faced with distance learning and Covid-19 where so many concepts were missed, I want to give them as many options as I can to success.
