This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In the past couple of years, we've had some of our woodwind instruments play their final concerts. Many of our flutes, clarinets, and bass clarinets are broken beyond repair, resulting in students having to share instruments, having to choose a different instrument, or choosing to leave band altogether. This is my 10th year at CCMS, and in those 10 years, we have only replaced 2 instruments due to ongoing budget constraints.
CCMS band kids deserve working instruments!
Year after year, there are more and more students who need to borrow school owned instruments. We are getting to the point where we have more students than instruments. Replacing some of our totaled woodwinds will help us serve more kids.
We are a Title 1 and next year, a dual language immersion school. My students deserve to know that they matter regardless of their backgrounds. Currently, we have no system in place to replace old, overworked instruments. With budget cuts in the coming year, and our band program growing, I don't see how I can continue to give my students the tools they need to succeed.
