This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a school where 100% of the population comes from low-income or disadvantaged households. The school, along with our entire school district, qualifies as Title I. Our school is located directly off a major highway in California.
Many of my students come from first-generation households, of which many have parents who have never attended college.
My students come to school in hopes of having a safe, engaging, and collaborative classroom. School today can have many challenges. There is a high amount of crime and poverty in the area that our school covers; we hope to challenge students to overcome and prove that they, too, deserve opportunities for growth. With your help, we can make sure they have the materials for success, health, and happiness.
My Project
This project is requesting a Ufine wooden plant stand that has a spot for all Garden Buddy partner pairs to show off their plant life.
Together, we can give the students everything they need to grow a successful garden— soil/gravel, fertilizer, pots of all sizes, and even some self-watering planters!
We will use the Hoffman soil mixture with the Miracle-Gro potting mix to host our plants after they reach maturity from our classroom hydroponics bay. The bamboo saucers will keep the classroom floor dry, while the ceramic and concrete planters give the classroom a visual appeal. The students work so hard to grow and mature our plants, this project would benefit them and give them a spot to keep their plants alive and continue any current experiments that they are performing on their veggies.
This project will allow me to tie in multiple subject areas into a Project Based Learning (PBL) environment. Students will work together to determine experiments as they learn and grow along with their own plants during our Plant Life Unit. Thank you for any donations and support of our classroom!
