This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.
My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.
Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!
My Project
Students in Crafts and Ceramics II will learn about pyrography and making burnt compositions on wood. Having wood burners and wood will allow for the wood arts unit to be possible as we currently do not have any wood and limited wood burners.
Students will use the wood burners and wood to create a unique burnt in composition on a slab of wood.
This would make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives by allowing them to become familiar with an art form they may have not even known existed.
