This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my class qualifies for free lunch. My students are diverse learners that all need something different from school. Students in my class are given access to flexible seating, a classroom library, and a Makerspace every day in order to better their learning.
Our classroom is full of diverse, excited learners who need a wide range of resources to learn.
My goal is to create a caring classroom community where my students feel valued and a sense of belonging. My students teach me just as much as I teach them.
My Project
A class set of Wonder will benefit my students immensely by giving them the chance to read a diverse novel about having a disability. Students need to be exposed to a diverse set of characters at a young age so that they will learn to empathize with the diverse community we live in.
Wonder will allow students with and without disabilities to see that everyone should be accepted no matter their struggle.
Wonder will allow students to see, read and openly discuss what it means to have a disability and what it feels like. Our classroom provides a safe space for students to have an open discussion and learn to empathize.
