This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are mini artists in the making. They come from very low income families, and therefore don't get to experience art like most children. They don't have the opportunity to go to museums or color and paint at home. Some of their favorite things are playing soccer, drawing anime, and reading classroom comic books during free time.
Vacationing in the art room is the perfect break they need from a regular school day.
We get to draw superheros and transformers, paint beautiful landscapes, and create projects together to hang up around the school. They love coming to my room and experiencing diverse materials, learning about a new artist or technique, and to just get away from the regular school day.
My Project
I would like to use these posters of Master Artist paintings to give my students a great museum experience. I plan to display these posters in museum fashion around my school and the six other schools in my district, meaning they will impact thousands of children. We will each create a mock museum to give our students the feel and experience of a real art museum.
Sadly most of my students have never been to an art museum, and will most likely never see these wonderful works of art in person.
I would like to bring these paintings to them. We will get a great opportunity to learn and practice how to talk about art. These paintings will also be a rotating collection of artwork that can be use in the classroom as an Artist of the Month, which will help us develop our higher level thinking and creativity.
