Our students come from an inner-city neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio and are from very diverse backgrounds. We are a public, charter school with approximately 300 students, many of which come from low income families. Our population is comprised of many races, nationalities, and religions. We are a community school that welcomes family involvement. We pride ourselves on many things, including our achievement, our friendly, welcoming environment, and on teaching students at their ability levels to help them reach their fullest potential.
Each day students work independently on engaging activities in reading and math that focus on previously taught standards, allowing me to focus on working with a small group of students.
My Project
I am requesting standards-based reading center activities for my students to use during our daily reading time. Each day, I meet with three small groups of students for differentiated reading instruction. While I meet with a small group, the rest of the class works independently on reading centers.
The products requested will help my students master second grade ELA standards while having fun and enjoying learning!
My students will be able to use these center activities to practice key skills such as making inferences, identifying the main idea, and writing, Having centers that are colorful, kinesthetic and engaging will help students master the standards and stay focused on the task at hand allowing me to focus my attention on my small reading group.
