My Students
My students work incredibly hard to master skills. They are willing to try new things and ask many questions. Their ability to think through different issues and discuss deeper topics inspires me every day.
I know that the right materials will help my students continue to learn, grow and excel in skills that will help them in and out of the classroom.
I want to be able to help my students develop critical thinking skills in the safe environment of my classroom. There's nothing I love more than assisting my students as they work through different skills and come out victorious.
My Project
We will use Wonder as a whole class novel study; analyzing characters, finding themes, and comparing perspectives. This text engages students with relatable characters and experiences, as the main character is experiencing 5th grade and all the challenges that come with it.
We will use Wonder as a mentor text to not only teach 5th grade literacy skills, but to also help teach students that kindness can exist when WE choose to be kind.
In Wonder, we are able to have students see the choices that characters made and discuss what made them likable or unlikable. In these discussions, we are able to apply these characteristics to our own classroom and challenge students to be kind.
