My students need a class set of the Wonder novel so we can read together, journals to write our kindness ideas, and Have You Filled a Bucket Today? to begin our kindness project.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are adventurous fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students with emotional disturbance. They learn in different ways from one other, exploration, and from me and the opportunities I provide for them. They work diligently to overcome the challenges of their disabilities and strive to be their best. They challenge me daily and I enjoy finding ways to help them.
More than half of my students are from low-income households.
My school community is very supportive and encouraging to my students and me. When people say "It takes a village...," I have learned that it really does take a village in order to meet the needs of every student in my classroom. For this reason, I do my best to be creative to provide them what they need and make our classroom a positive learning environment.
My Project
“Kinder than is necessary. Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.” R.J. Palacio
Teaching my students with emotional disturbance to be kind and to do more than what is expected is part of my daily routine due to the nature of my program.
My students come into my classroom when they are unsuccessful in the general education setting and have exhausted all supports and strategies used to help them. I teach social skills, coping strategies, and emotional well-being in order to access the curriculum. All academic learning stops until their behavior is under control.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio will be used to read as a class and learn how Auggie is mistreated and is able to overcome many things. The Wonder pencils, bookmarks, and journals will be used to write down our kindness ideas. The Have You Filled a Bucket Today? book will be used to support our kindness learning. I will use the T-shirt to show students that not only do I teach and practice kindness, I am a walking billboard.
