My students need the book Wonder to read in class prior to watching the movie. The book Wonder allows students to talk about the differences of individuals with exceptionalities. This will allow and facilitate discussion.

My Students
I work in a rural central Illinois school with a fifty percent low poverty special education students. Many students lack opportunities to read and relate it to real life situations.
Research based evidence shows that students with exceptionalities who have access to reading materials can thrive and excel when given the opportunity to learn through increased reading and relating it to real life situations.
In teaching social skills it is important that we implement reading that associates with students feelings
My Project
Students will be given the book Wonder to be utilized in class, in order to assist students in realizing the differences of individuals and the affect of our behaviors when approaching individuals with differences.
The book also allows for them to discuss how they have felt as being an individual with exceptionalities and how other peoples actions and words have affected them in the past or even in the future.
This also allows for the educators teach appropriate social skills in how to handle when a hurtful situation arises and the necessary coping skills. After reading the book the students will have the opportunity to watch the movie that goes with it.
