Our student body is a wonderful mixture of different cultures. We have about 600 students in grades K-4, and our staff is full of amazing, dedicated people who truly love this school and its students.
Our students love to read and are always excited for book-borrowing times in our library, as well as hearing their classroom teachers or media specialists read aloud to them.
We encourage our students to be curious, independent, and caring, especially when it comes to reading and borrowing books from our library. They are able to choose a book, learn from it, and understand that they are responsible for caring for that book while it's in their possession. They not only get to choose fun, exciting books to read, but are learning life lessons in the process!
This project will provide 30 new titles for our library, specifically about women and girls who have made great contributions to society. All of our K-4 students will have the opportunity to check out picture books about women from different walks of life who made history and continue to inspire children today. Titles like Grace Hopper: Queen of Computer Code, I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark, Mae Among the Stars (about astronaut Mae Jemison), and Shining Star: The Anna May Wong Story will inform students about women who should be recognized for their work in science, math, technology, literature, entertainment, politics & government, and social justice movements.
