This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I get the opportunity to teach some of the most loving, caring, energetic and appreciative students within my school. My students all require modifications and accommodations to the standard curriculum in order to ensure success. One of the struggles for many of my students is the inability to sit still and remain focused. Many of my students need to keep moving in order to get the sensory input their bodies crave. When they get this sensory input, they are better able to focus on the lessons being taught.

My Project

Hello, and thank you for taking a look at my classroom project. Currently, many of my students try to tip their chairs back or wiggle in their seats, ultimately resulting in distracting others, putting their safety in jeopardy (as they can fall back and hit their heads), and lots of time spent on teacher redirection/ prompting. Flexible seating allows my students to regulate their bodies safely by moving in discreet ways so they can then focus their energy and mind on the lesson being taught. They will also lessen time spent on teacher redirection/prompting. My students and I thank you again for considering funding my project.
