This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a 3rd grade gifted and talented class. They are an amazing group of hard-working students. Many of them are still dealing with impacts from Covid-19.

I try to keep every minute focused on high impact, quality learning experiences that will help us move forward.

I want them eager to come to school because of the different and challenging activities offered, and to be focused and ready to achieve greatness. Though we are hoping for a much less eventful school year this year, I hope to continue to build in my class resilience and compassion for our classmates and community as well as continued growth and adventures in learning!

My Project

3rd graders are not meant to spend an extended period of time seated in a chair. Though I offer brain breaks and movements throughout the day, giving them a way to wiggle at their tables would give them an additional (and continuous) outlet.

It doesn't matter your age.

Sitting in a chair for hours at a time is a challenge. Wobble stools are especially good for students with special learning needs, such as autism and ADHD. As a child moves during active sitting, the heart pumps a bit faster and blood vessels in the legs and hips open up which increases blood flow. Better blood flow means more oxygen gets to the brain. With more oxygen, brain function increases, allowing for improved focus and better knowledge retention. All while creating optimal learning in a not-so-optimal situation.
