Our elementary school services over 1,200 students, in an urban setting. My students are special because they are a diverse group of learners with very different needs. They come from a variety of economic backgrounds, are full of energy, and are eager to learn new things.
I want to be able to give my students experiences that will create lifelong learners.
My goal is to give my students opportunities that allow them to grow and encourage them to enjoy learning, through hands-on experiences. Remote or in-person, learning can be fun!
My Project
This year has been the year of change. One change for my young students is that classroom movement is extremely limited, we spend most of the day sitting in our seats. This creates the need for additional outlets to release energy. These flexible seating options include built-in movement opportunities.
The wobble seats, mats and balance balls will allow for quiet, safe movement that will help my students stay focused.
Flexible Seating has many benefits for students such as differentiated seating, improved behavior as well as increasing student focus. It also keeps them moving, alert and safe in their seats. Flexible seating provides each student the opportunity to feel comfortable while they are constantly reminded to wear their mask correctly and to be socially distanced from their classmates and friends.
The opportunity for flexible seating gives my students the power of choice and to take responsibility for their learning.
