Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The 27 first graders that entered my classroom this year come from such diverse backgrounds, making our classroom culture very unique and truly enriches our class community. I have students coming from several different countries bringing in over 8 different languages. My students bring such awesome and unique characteristics into the class that makes teaching so special to me. Being able to teach to such a diverse population is impactful and helps me grow as an educator. As their teacher it is my responsibility to teach and tailor my lessons to meet the needs of all types of learners. By doing so I want to create a classroom environment that physically accommodates all students! My students love working by not sitting in a traditional chair and desk, they accomplish more when allowed to sit in the teacher chair, or in the class library. My students deserve to have the choice of seats they need, to be able to learn the best they can!

My Project

Flexible seating allows me to meet the specific needs for all my learners. It motivates the children to learn, stay focused and decreases behavioral choices. The reason for this project is for me to help each and every one of my students learn the best that they can. Setting up a classroom that is inviting and welcoming to all students not only encourages them to come to school, but also increases their learning potential. They can now wiggle or wobble while working and he or she would not be disrupting the students next to him. Research has shown that when students are able to receive the proper resources they need for learning, their outcomes are significantly higher. Additionally, the physical movements of the body positively impacts academics. I cannot wait for my students to receive these materials and the outstanding effects it will have on their learning!
