My Students
I teach within a wonderful, loving community of students, teachers and parents. Many of our students come from families who are socioeconomically disadvantaged. This does not define who our students are though. Our kids are mathematicians, authors, scientists, engineers, artists, programers, historians, peacekeepers and peer mediators. Most of all, we are a community of learners who values and loves each other.
The children in my class are passionate, resourceful members of the community who truly care about the importance of family, having integrity and helping anyone in need.
My Project
My students need the ability to choose what work area and seating options will help them concentrate and learn the best! Little bodies have a hard time sitting still for long periods of time. I want my students to use wobble stools as an optional working area, so they can fidget while completing work and projects with their peers. As a student myself, I never had the option of choosing what seating would best fit my learning style. I want to give my students the opportunity to have a choice!!
Since implementing other flexible seating options, I have noticed that my students are able to concentrate for longer periods of time, and they are able to collaborate with many different partners in our classroom without having the confines of a single desk spot.
The community that this has built has not only changed the effectiveness of student engagement, but has also helped to create a classroom environment that feels like a family.
These wobble stools will complete our flexible seating options and allow student voice and choice in choosing their best suited learning environment.
