Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district in Chicago , my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My students are diverse learners who have communication and learning disorders. They are lovable, energetic kids who need new flexible seating options to keep their active bodies sitting while they are learning. Some of my students have autism and some have ADHD which makes it hard to sit still in a chair all day. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences by giving them flexible seating options which will increase their ability to learn in a different fashion.

My students have the weight of the world on their shoulders when they walk into my room on a daily basis.

I encourage them to be themselves and understand that we are all different. I want them be immersed in fun, loving and engaging learning environment where they will succeed.

My Project

Who wants to sit in a traditional chair all day and doesn't have a disability that makes sitting challenging? My students have trouble sitting in traditional seats, sustaining focus and attention on their learning. They are up standing up, on their knees, walking around, or their chairs are pushed out which makes the classroom unsafe for other students. With the donations made to this project it will give my students a choice within the classroom, leadership of their own learning and a chance to learn responsibility. I want to use these wobble chars as an option to sit in while students work in small groups with me or at tables around the room working on their learning plans (differentiated learning opportunities for each student). I hope it increases my students success in learning along with the opportunity to be responsible for the choices they make during the day. I hope by incorporating the wobble chairs in my classroom that all students in the classroom will find a mode to release some of that extra energy and focus on their learning.
