Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school energetic and ready to learn every day! They enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. It is hard for most of them to stay engaged while sitting in a hard, uncomfortable chair all day. They often get fidgety and restless. I would like the opportunity to offer them flexible seating options that will make them more comfortable while they are learning! A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success!
Around 42 students use my classroom space each day.
I notice many of them struggle with staying in their personal space for the chunks of work time that require sitting at their table. I have 3 who literally fall out of their seat regularly. They like to move when they are focusing on their tasks, and our current set up is only chairs. Our site encourages individuality and allows for all different learning styles, but has a budget that is limited.
My Project
I believe in making sure students are comfortable and feel that is essential in motivating them and increasing their level of engagement.
I have noticed a huge difference in my students when they have voice and choice in their seating options.
They stay focused and complete most of their tasks.
Currently, my students only have a limited set of options for seating in our classroom. We use chairs or the floor. These wobble seats will give them a safe and beneficial option for seating in our classroom. I'm excited to provide them with a sensory option that sets them up for success.
