My Students

The school in which I teach at is a Title I funded school with a high population of students living in poverty. Each student has their own unique backgrounds, abilities, and needs. As a cross-categorical special education teacher, I provide special education services and support to students with disabilities. The students represent a wide range of disabilities, including Significant Developmental Delay (SDD), autism, specific learning disability, other health impairment, and/or a speech and language impairment.

Differentiation allows students with disabilities to access grade-level curriculum and to close the achievement gap.

The students are provided with small group and/or one-on-one instruction in order to support their individual needs and goals. Each student is eager to learn and can learn when provided with the necessary supports.

My Project

The students in my school are very eager to demonstrate and practice their knowledge through differentiated instruction and supports. Alternative seating options will provide necessary supports to students with disabilities during small group instruction.

With the choice in seating, the students will be provided an opportunity to move while working.

This will allow them to engage in the instruction/activity without being a distraction to others in the group. Additionally, it can increase student attention and productivity. Alternative seating options such as the wobble stool have shown improved posture and muscle tone, increase in blood flow, and provide sensory input while burning energy.
