My Students
Second graders are the best! They are creative, curious, and funny. There is never a dull moment with them. In addition to content, they are learning when to listen and when to be social, how to collaborate and cooperate, and learning how to be independent, motivated learners. This is a lot! As a teacher, it is my job to make sure students are enjoying learning so that they continue to love school and becoming lifelong learners. One way that I can do this is by creating an environment that is comfortable, yet conducive to learning. The materials that I am requesting will help my students remain engaged and motivated learners, while providing lots of practice for the skills I am teaching.
Students need to move!
I've been reading and researching flexible seating and feel this would really benefit my students and prepare them with 21st century skills. Flexible seating allows for movement and social interaction while learning.
My Project
Whenever former students come back to visit, they ask if I still let students sit on yoga balls. And whenever new students start in my class they always ask when I will bring out the alternative seating. As matter of fact, they have asked for more "cool" seats!
Sitting still all day is not good for anyone!
While my students often ask for and engage in movement breaks, seating options in the classroom is another important component. Kore Wobble Chairs give students the opportunity to wiggle while they work, hence engaging the core. Students need to be engaged to learn!
When my students asked about different kinds of seating, I started researching. They were so excited when I found Kore Wobble Chairs and are excited to hear if I am able to acquire them. These chairs are one more tool for engagement and provide great benefits to students who need to move in order to be engaged. Better attention means better learning.
As we have done with balance balls in the past, the Kore Wobble Chairs will be shared with the whole class. Students help me set up a rotation schedule that they feel is fair and will use the chairs at a variety of times throughout the week. The motion that the chairs provide, engages the core, hence providing motor feedback and allows students to better focus.
