Help me give my students great book choices and flexible seating options! The books selected will encourage diversity and kindness. Flexible seating options will encourage students to take charge of their learning.
I see 120 5/6 grade students throughout the school day. We are a Title I school that has almost 90% free and reduced priced lunch rate. I have students that have been affected by the Flint Water Crisis. Even though my students have many socioeconomic hardships against them, they persevere. They come to school wanting to learn and to be better every day. My students love to learn through collaboration. They are eager to learn and to challenge themselves. My students are caring and work well together.

My Project
Flexible seating provides students with a variety of options on where they want to learn around the classroom. They are able to take charge of their own learning. My students spend a great deal of time working with their partners around the classroom. Whether they are having an in depth conversation about a good book or thinking critically to plan and carry out science activities, they are always working hard. My fifth and sixth graders are more engaged when they are allowed the freedom to move while working. Allowing them to choose where they sit lets the students take charge of their learning. The products I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The comfy floor chairs will encourage more independent learning from my higher producing students while the wobble seats will help my ADHD students with the constant fidgeting they experience. The wobble chairs will help students get the jitters out without disturbing others. The additional book will provide the students a variety of choices for their in classroom library. The books selected are focused in Caldecott Winners, nonfiction, and kindness. These book choices will help promote diverse reading.
Ensuring that the classroom environment is conducive to learning is imperative.
Having flexible seating will allow my students to be comfortable in their learning environment. Flexible seating also creates an atmosphere where students feel they are the facilitators of their learning. Diverse book selections will help encourage the students to read more.
