Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at an inner-city elementary school as a 4th grade teacher. While my classroom consists of general ed students, 10 out of 29 of them are ELL's. Majority of my students are living below the poverty line, and all students receive breakfast at school.
My students are ambitious and eager to learn.
The progress they are making is seen each day. While my students are willing to give their all, their lack of accessing technology devices at home impedes on their development as a 21st Century Learner. Literacy is not promoted in many of their homes as most of their parents are new to the language.
The motivation and enthusiasm each student brings into our classroom has transformed us into a learning community. Our endless support for one another is reflective in their development thus far.
My Project
Not only will "Flexible Seating" provide comfort for my students, but it will empower them as they are given the choice to choose where they work. My goal is to give my students more freedom and creativity while actively learning. With these items we will have seating options to suit all learners, and also help us as teachers with seats that are appropriate for the flexible tables. Flexible seating also helps restless students stay focused while energizing those who may feel lethargic.
Traditional seating no longer works for many of my students.
They prefer removing their shoes, stretching out on the rug, or on an overstuffed chair, reading a good book. Please help me provide that for them.
