This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students will benefit from having more flexible seating in our kindergarten classroom. They spend most of their days either on the carpet or working at their tables in small groups. Our regular chairs are not the most comfortable place for my five and six-year-old students.
The two stools and chair bands that I am requesting will provide additional options during independent work time or during small group instruction such as guided reading, writing, and phonics work.
We currently have some stools and my students use them daily especially students receiving special education services. It helps them have ownership and flexibility to have options around the classroom during work time. Students can move the stools to their regular tables, use them during our carpet time, and even when engaging in small group work with an adult.
The portable lap desk will be a great tool to use during independent reading or writing without having to work at a table. Having options and flexibility allows students with special needs to be more successful and independent.
The chair bands will help all of my students learn better and stay on task longer because they will provide students with an alternative to fidget with their feet when needed.
There are many benefits to having flexible seating in the classrooms, supports students staying focused, being physically active without disrupting peers, improves concentration, and more.
