The students in my class are hands on learners. They are excited about challenges that face them in our classroom daily. Taking ownership of their learning and becoming more independent learners, each day, is something that I strive to help my students with! No matter what socioeconomic or language challenges my students have, I want to make sure that EVERY child has the same opportunities to learn. Our school is a community Title I school, with over 65% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Our media center started adding alternative seating options for our students last year, and my students loved it. These seating options help provide students more time than our traditional classroom, to be actively moving during the school day. My students have asked me for some different alternative seating options for our classroom. I have actually borrowed a Wobble stool to help one of my students who has a hard time paying attention, and it helped tremendously. The Wobble stool provides students with the ability to move around, instead of just being expected to stay still, if that is a problem for them, especially with a child having ADHD or Autism. I've seen personally, the difference it can make, just by being able to have that advantage of moving around, to stay focused on a task and finishing it. The Wobble stool provided that advantage to such students. It truly was an amazing intervention, that worked for my kids! I need several stools to place around my classroom for activities such as Math Centers, Flex groups, etc.
I believe in providing my students with whatever tools I can to help them best learn.
