My Project
Flexible seating is an added benefit being used in classrooms all around the country. They are helpful for any age, but particularly for early childhood classrooms where students are in a school environment for the first time.
It comes to no surprise that children like, and need, to move.
They are constantly building on their gross motor skills and are learning their preferences in all aspects of the classroom. Flexible seating options will provide the students with the choice of where they feel comfortable sitting during center, lunch, and meeting time. No educator wants their students to feel uncomfortable while learning. This leads to distraction and the lowers their productivity. Flexible seating will allow our students to remain calm, focused and productive.
The settle movement does only only help increase the flow of oxygen to their growing brains, but increases their strength and blood flow. Not to mention how the choice in seating teaches students patience, higher order thinking and problem solving skills. Students take turns and learn to share with non traditional items, unlike toys. It is important to mention it specifically helps student with who need sensory stimulation in order to help process and receive information. Providing the option of seating for the students gives them the opportunity to feel empowered by creating their own choices based on their preferences.
