My Students

My Title 1 public school is located on the west end of Alameda, which is designated as a Coast Guard City. In 2006, three neighborhood schools on the west end were combined to make one new and diverse community.

My students, who range from grades 1-5, come from extremely diverse backgrounds and are eager to grow and learn together.

A lot of my students are part of a transient population which includes coast guard families and are dealing with transitional housing situations. I also have newly arrived students from Mongolia, Yemen, Eritrea, The Phillipines, and Mexico to name a few. They are really eager to work, learn, and improve their reading skills.

My Project

My students are very active and can hardly wait for in-class movement breaks and/or recess to get their physical energy out!

I want to give my students flexible seating options so they can get their energy out while working comfortably and productively.

This year, I would like to offer my students wobble chairs. These kids are working really hard to improve their reading skills. Being in a 'just right seat' will help them to be more comfortable and focused.

By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
