My students are very energetic and eager learners. My kindergartners are the best to work with. They are young students that can be distracted very easily, but they always try their best and work extremely hard to be successful. My classroom has a huge variety of students in it and I believe that every student learns differently. I also believe that flexible seating would be a huge part of the way that I can help reach each of their needs.
How great would it be for the students to feel empowered by having choice and control over their environment?
Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and learn each day and with whom. Students can change their seating as needed.
My Project
Kindergartners will benefit from these flexible seating options in several different ways: choice, comfort, sensory, physical health, and fun! Students will feel empowered by having a choice everyday as to where they sit and with whom. They will feel like they are in control of their learning environment. My students will pick their seating based on what makes them comfortable and where they think that they will learn best for the given day. When students choose their own type of seat they are reaching their own sensory needs as well, making everything that they are taught during the day easier to learn and more fun. Physical health is also very important to young children. If they are made to sit in chairs all day they are not being active and getting their wiggles out.
Children need to move and flexible seating allows them to do that- wobble, rock, bounce, etc.
Movement helps increase oxygen flow, core strength, and keeps minds more alert and focused. Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
