My Students
My students are from Sparks Nevada, a small middle-class working community surrounded by the ever growing Reno area. They come to school each day with a desire to learn and to be successful, despite the trying time they encounter each day with the global pandemic of COVID-19. Students are excited to be in class despite the protocols of social distancing and wearing a mask. The school community is small, but we work together to support each other each day!
My students have been through so much the last couple of years with distance learning and social distancing.
I have worked hard over the last summer to create a fun and creative learning environment in my classroom so that my students have a safe and comfortable place to learn. My students work a lot on Social and Emotional Learning, instilling a sense of community and compassion. We have weekly "Caught Being Kind" award that the students nominate and vote for the winner. We have a class marble jar that I use to set class goals and allow students to earn rewards like a slime party, extra recess, or PE.
We are so excited to be learning in person this year!
My Project
Due to social distancing protocol because of Covid-19. my students need to sit in their own desk in rows three feet apart most of the day. They no longer get to sit in pods or groups or rotate centers. Sitting all day long in rows is really taking its toll. My students struggle to stay focused and on task. Flex seating will allow students a safe and fun way to stay seated, focused and learning.
Research has shown that flex seating helps students stay stimulated just enough to maintain focus and stamina to complete their school work.
Staying focused in a stressful pandemic era is vital for my students to be successful in all Nevada Academic Content Standards. Flex seating will be a big piece to the success of my students.
