it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
According to Lindsey Petlak, research shows “that having more student choice with seating increases individual student performance but also creates a positive whole classroom school community!” For many of my kindergartners, this year will be the first time they have been in a classroom. Traditional seating stifles creativity and forces students into complacency, which can lead to negative behaviors. The long school day and increased academic expectations do not allow five and six year old children the movement they need throughout their day. Having flexible seating options that include wobble seats for little wigglers to rock back and forth or wiggle in their seats while they work give students the movement they need to be successful. We recently got a few floor desks and those are absolute favorites in our classroom.

COVID-19 has had a direct influence on our students. Flexible seating gives my students choice, which in turn has a positive impact on their social emotional development. Having choices and being somewhere they are calm increases their focus on their work and less disruptive to their peers.
