My young students are considered at risk. Many don’t have a lot of speech, or fine or gross motor skills. Some have very few material belongings. None of that matters to my young learners. They see and treat each other just the same. Each of my students are amazing kids, with an endless potential if given the opportunity.
What my young students have in abundance is a lot of love and a genuine desire to learn.
We are a Title I preschool in an urban, public school system. Over 78% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. To them it doesn't matter what their lives are like at home, when they come to school they know it's a safe place that encourages them to use their imagination, allows them to explore, and helps train them to use their intellect in a fun and creative way.
My Project
This is my students first school experience. They aren't used to a structured environment. What they are used to is being very active. Learning requires focus and concentration. That used to mean sitting in a chair and listening as they learn. Studies have now shown that children need to take control of their environment to enhance their learning process. Something so simple as giving a child control of where they learn can be empowering.
Wobble stools can lead to immediate gratification for the student.
The stools allow the child to change position, keeps them engaged and stimulates a sense of touch and focus. As a child moves, it increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and strengthens the core. More calories are burned, metabolism is increased, the student's minds are alert and focused. This in turn leads to higher academic performance, better health and improved behavior.
The wobble chairs in the Flex-Space Wobble Chair Bundle reflect the real world. As the world is ever-changing, so can the student. This seating will help my 21st Century learners stay calm, focused and productive.
