This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students include Special and Regular Education students who are eager to learn. I work in a low-income area with 90% of all students receive free breakfast and free or reduced lunches.
All students need to be involved in their learning through the use of resources and materials that will motivate and challenge them to reach their full potential.
Our school's budget is limited by economic circumstances of the district and state. Every year the budget has been slashed to the point that the school doesn't have the funds to purchase basic supplies or flexible seating for my students.
My Project
Like most children, and even adults, my students learn best when they have control over their learning environment and style. With the rigorous expectations that are held above them, sitting at a desk does not always maximize their learning potential. A majority of my fourth graders are kinesthetic learners and do their best work when they are able to move around.
These alternative seating choices will keep my students engaged in their work, hold them accountable for their learning, motivate them to think critically, and make learning enjoyable!
Flexible seating puts students in control of their learning-- they know what they need to enhance their learning, and these options allow them to be advocates for their education. When learning gets tough, these new seating options will fuel their brains and bodies to persevere to meet their goals!
