My students are energetic, creative, and full of questions and ideas! They love being active and learning in a very hands-on way. Many of them do not have much and are so grateful for everything they are given! When given a problem, their faces light up and they are working hard, thinking outside the box, and coming up with various solutions.
We work together as a community of learners to improve each day and celebrate our successes.
My goal is to inspire and encourage them to be the best they can be each day.
My Project
Flexible seating encourages students to manage their own learning. When students feel responsible for their own learning, their desire and ability to engage and focus on the tasks at hand increases. Currently, I allow students to find a spot in the classroom to work when they do independent work. Right now, this typically looks like students choosing to sit or lay down on the floor with a clipboard. My students love having the freedom to choose where they would like to work, however, they are not as comfortable as they could be due to a lack of resources. I would love to increase their motivation by giving them comfortable seating options to use while they work.
I have noticed that when my students get to choose where they would like to work, they are more engaged in the activities and assignments, which leads to increased learning.
The pandemic has impacted student learning by creating gaps in their learning, as well as causing difficulty with staying focused because of the extra anxiety and worry about COVID-19. The materials I have chosen for this project will give students more comfortable seating options to choose from, which will help increase their motivation to learn and stay focused. The wobble chairs allow students to fidget and move at a desk or table space while they learn, helping minimize distractions and increasing their ability to stay focused. The floor cushions give students a comfortable place to work if they choose to sit on the floor. These seating options will ensure that students are as comfortable as they can be, helping create a safe and productive space for them to engage and learn.
