Wobble and Learn

My students need alternate seating in small group settings. Wobble chairs help little bodies move while helping them focus on learning new skills.

My Students

I have an amazing group of students from various backgrounds. We live in a rural community in South Carolina. We are in a Title I school, and resources are extremely limited. Our students deserve the best learning environment regardless of their personal access to resources beyond their means.

I have 21 students in my class, 10 girls and 11 boys.

Several of my students have an ADD/ADHD diagnosis, with others having a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. Several of my students were in a self-contained behavior class last year, and this year they are integrated into the mainstream classroom.

With the variety of learning styles and abilities in my class, I am in great need of alternate learning options. My students have a great desire to learn, but sometimes their need to move or be in a different position hinders optimum learning.

It is my passion to give these students the best that I can provide for them. As a child, I had the opportunity to attend a prominent private school on scholarship. I had access to materials I would not have otherwise. These children most likely will not have those opportunities.

My Project

My students need flexible seating to help them focus and learn in a creative environment. I have some students with learning differences who need a different way to learn. Students who move while learning will remember more. Wobble chairs provide a calming effect and ability to focus on instruction.

My students have many distractions in their lives.

I have a few precious hours in their lives to help them learn as best as they can. Research has been done in several places, including Las Vegas, NV in 2009-2010. J. Bodak, R. Dietrich, and A. Awerbach found "Discovered a direct correlation between student participation when using the wobble chair. Those who struggled from lack of focus repeatedly were more on task and able to complete assignments." My students need to have the opportunity to have the best learning environment possible.
