I have 20 energetic fifth graders this year. These students are very athletic, kind, hardworking, creative, respectful, and so much more.
We are from a small town in Kansas.
My students love to learn and try new things. This year I have a larger class, so I thought it might be the perfect opportunity to try the new alternative seating trend that is currently happening in education. I think that this would be the best type of seating to start with because the students can move on them and also roll. These would be very easy to move around the room when needed.
I want to provide many hands-on learning experiences and ways of learning that are researched and proven to help students achieve at the highest potential. I also want my classroom to be a fun place to learn, and I want to allow my students to venture out of the classroom norm.
My Project
Flexible seating is a must in elementary school these days. My students need the option to get up and move and select a different type of seating instead of sitting in their regular school chair all day long. I want the chance to give my students the opportunity to choose the best seating for them to do their best learning. The wobble chairs and balance ball chairs would give them great alternative options to a regular chair or stool.
I feel the flexible seating could be the answer to a lot of the issues and needs of my classroom.
All students including special education students, MTSS students, ADD or ADHD students and our regular education students could benefit from various types of flexible seating. Flexible seating can improve focus, academic success and student engagement.
