This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach four and five year old preschoolers in a diverse, low socioeconomic community. My students are creative, curious and independent thinkers. They have different interests, skills and experiences that are celebrated. Our classroom is an extension of the home. We are a family, a community of learners who help and care about one another.
Each day my preschoolers come to school full of energy, wonder and excitement about the world around them.
It is my job to promote learning as they discover and explore their world. The classroom environment needs to give the children the opportunity and freedom to safely move around. Materials need to be easily accessible to young learners.
My Project
It is important to have a safe, inviting, well organized classroom. The materials and storage should be age appropriate for early childhood education. The shelves we have now are too tall. They prohibit our view of the entire classroom and are not child friendly.
Space and surroundings are important factors for making a child feel welcome, safe and comfortable in their environment.
The new Preschool Storage Units will be the perfect height for our little learners. They will be safer and give us more of a "sense of community" in our classroom. They will keep the materials all within a preschoolers reach. Through wonder and exploration, our classroom learning areas will encourage ordinary moments to become memorable learning experiences.
