With One Classroom Leveled Library Can Increase Literacy
My students need a leveled classroom library so that they can increase their literacy. I have many ENL students and low level students who need extra materials for reading.
It is hard to consider what I do as a job, because teaching is truly a part of who I am. I love how engaged and determined my students are. They ask questions consistently to stimulate their minds. I love building lasting relationships with my students and being able to see them become lifelong learners.
People always say to me, "Those kids are lucky to have you," but I'm the lucky one.
Working with students day in and day out, year after year, I get to meet and become a large part of their lives. I get to be part of the molding and helping them prepare for the world. I care for them, challenge them and encourage them as if they are my own.
My Project
Everyday, I teach reading, math, social studies, and science. Without having the foundation of reading, all the other subjects will be difficult to understand. Reading is key! Having these materials will make a difference in my students’ learning because they will have the resource. My students are very diverse. Over 50% of the students at our school are limited English proficiency. As their teacher every year, I have to make sure that books are getting into my students hands. Many innocent children face challenges everyday but one challenge I do not want them to face is not knowing how to read.
